Is MNsure an Insurance Company?

No, MNsure is Minnesota's health insurance marketplace where individuals and families can shop, compare and choose health insurance coverage that meets their needs.

MNsure is the only place you can apply for financial help to lower the cost of your monthly insurance premium and out-of-pocket costs. Most Minnesotans who enroll through MNsure qualify for financial help.

Also available to those who qualify are low-cost and free health insurance options provided through government-sponsored health insurance programs Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare. If you qualify for and enroll in one of these programs, your health coverage is managed through the Department of Human Services.

Coverage Options through MNsure

  • Medical Assistance: Covers low-income Minnesotans, including children and pregnant women, as well as people with disabilities. There is no monthly premium. Enrollment is available year-round.
  • MinnesotaCare: Covers lower-income Minnesotans who aren’t eligible for Medical Assistance. Low monthly premiums are determined by income and family size. Enrollment is available year-round.
  • Private health plans (qualified health plans): Health plans offered by insurance companies through MNsure. Financial help is available depending on your income, household size and the cost of insurance in your area.
